ITAD Glossary

What is value recovery?

Value recovery is returning money from retired IT equipment by reselling it, redeploying it or harvesting its parts, rather than recycling it only for raw materials. In ITAD, recovered value often offsets some or all of the cost of disposition.

Value recovery

Why it matters for IT and security teams

IT equipment loses value every month it sits unused. Getting assets to market quickly, in good condition, is the biggest factor in what a company gets back.

Value recovery

How it works

  • Assess and grade each asset.
  • Sanitize data so the device can be reused.
  • Repair or refurbish where it raises the resale grade.
  • Resell whole units or harvest parts such as CPUs, RAM and SSDs.
  • Report proceeds by asset.
