Many aspiring musicians dream of hitting the road and touring the country with their favorite band, and this week’s employee spotlight shines on a man who got to live that dream.
Though he was born and raised in Texas, Matt Boswell prefers the electrifying rhythm of rock to southern country twang. Growing up in the fever dream of the early 2000s punk rock scene bred a love of music and youthful adventure. Like many aspiring musicians, he learned to play several instruments and even joined a band, which provided him the rare opportunity to experience life on tour. From 2016 to 2018, he lived the teenage dream on a tour bus before returning to marry his wife of seven years, Amanda. He now lives a much quieter life in Tioga, Texas, working for the family business, where he’s been for ten years as HOBI’s Sales Manager.
Though sales may seem vastly different from being a musician, both require communication and time management skills, and life on the road with band members provided Matt the necessary tools to work with a team and serve as a point of contact for clients. As the Sales Manager, he fills many roles and has several responsibilities, including acquiring material, directing processing teams on how to manage material, and redistributing and selling material after processing. IT asset disposition plays a key role in e-waste reduction via maximizing value in retired IT assets, and Matt helps HOBI acquire, track, and redistribute products back into the market for reuse, making him an essential HOBI team member.
As not only a HOBI team member but also part of the family that built it from the ground up, Matt’s held multiple HOBI roles before sales, including AVT, demanufacturing, and IT support for CPF. Growing up in the industry, Matt has gained extensive knowledge and experience in the ITAD space and continues to help wherever he can, in addition to his daily sales duties.
His days now consist of client communication and directing the flow of sales traffic, but Matt still loves music and spends his weekends in front of a pulsing crowd, filling in for bands when needed, including his church’s worship band. In the rare moments he has free time, he enjoys re-watching television shows with his wife and a cat curled in his lap, named after the legendary Leroy Jethro Gibbs of NCIS.
Matt and his wife recently took on the responsibility of rescuing a huge, lovable Great Dain who has since become a permanent member of the Boswell family. At just two years old, he is the most prominent member of the family, but also the sweetest, and prefers a sprinkle of cheese with every meal.
When not at HOBI, Matt can be found on stage, in a gaming chair, behind a scope at the shooting range, or cramming onto a crowded couch for a movie marathon.
