HOBI-Employee Spotlight Rick Madson

Some people live in the spotlight, but this week’s employee spotlight shines on a man who thrives in the quiet edges of a room. Content with simple pleasures and stimulating conversation, Rick Madson is a man of many mysteries, a mediocre golf swing, and the superhuman ability to survive without coffee.

Originally from Seattle, Washington, Rick traded his rain boots for cowboy boots and moved to Dallas, where he joined the HOBI team as the Director of Accounting. His days are filled with numbers as he manages financial reporting systems and day-to-day transactions up through financial statement preparations. He also participates in board presentations and performs financial analysis.

For many people, working with numbers all day is considered a nightmare, but Rick has spent many years buried in spreadsheets. With a history of CFO roles for real estate and construction companies, he was more than prepared to tackle the financial responsibilities of the HOBI team at our Dallas location. For almost 3 years, he has kept HOBI on track financially and continues to be an outstanding HOBI team member.

Growing up in a small family, Rick is accustomed to a quieter environment, but like most reserved people, his mind is very loud. As a numbers man, he enjoys keeping his mind active, whether it’s professional networking or the occasional real estate investment. In addition to numbers, he’s also a history buff and loves accumulating knowledge on the subject, as well as staying up to date with geopolitical events.

As much as he enjoys mental stimulation, working with his hands provides some respite from a mentally taxing day. Years of working in the real estate and construction industries–on the financial end– fostered a fondness for building and rehabilitating houses when he has the time. He also enjoys golfing, though he claims to be terrible, and running when the weather is warmer.

You may not hear him often, but when not elbows deep in spreadsheets, Rick can be found behind a history book, or soaking in the Texas heat, either on a trail, on a roof, or on a golf course. If you’re lucky enough, you might even spot him in quiet conversation, catching up on current events.
