Reuse or Recycle Old IT Assets This Year

HOBI-device reuse

It’s a new year, which means it might be time to upgrade IT assets, but end of use doesn’t have to mean end of life. Many consumers choose to switch out older IT assets for newer models, but ITAD enterprises like HOBI encourage the reuse of old electronics to maximize product value. Device reuse helps extend the device’s life cycle and keeps electronics out of the waste stream.

Rather than throwing out old devices or letting them gather dust in a storage closet, consider donating old IT assets like laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, printers, or smart watches for reuse. IT asset disposition facilities collect retired IT assets, and some offer donation programs, which maximize device value and help bridge the digital divide by providing technology to those without access.

Some IT assets have been used so long that they no longer function properly. ITAD enterprises also collect retired IT assets that have reached the end of their useful life. If devices cannot be repurposed or remarketed, ITAD facilities will ensure they are disposed of properly via electronics recycling. Recycling keeps e-waste from being sent to landfills and polluting the environment.

Most importantly, ITAD providers ensure all data is wiped from IT assets before disposition. Resetting electronics doesn’t necessarily erase all of the data from the device, and until data is properly sanitized, it remains vulnerable to data theft, especially when not correctly processed.

HOBI is an R2v3, RIOS, and ISO-14001 certified IT asset management and disposition enterprise focused on maximizing economic return and mitigating potential environmental liability. During every disposition step, HOBI focuses on maximizing value for our clients and determining the best disposition path for the environment. For more information about HOBI’s remarketing opportunities or our ITAD services, call 817-814-2620 or contact HOBI at sales@hobi.com.
