HOBI-blog recap

Below is a recap of this week’s blog posts including a few winter recycling tips, top barriers and some possible solutions to e-waste recycling, Microsoft’s agreement to extend Windows 10 support, and how to reuse old electronics this holiday season.

Winter Recycling Tips

Winter is here, meaning leaving anything outside can result in damaged materials, even recycled ones. We’ve provided some winter recycling tips below for all types of waste as the weather gets colder.

Top Barriers and Possible Solutions to E-waste Recycling

There are many barriers to e-waste recycling. As manufacturers release new and more sophisticated versions of electronic devices, consumers get rid of the older models and replace them with the newer versions. This pattern causes the amount of e-waste generated as trash to skyrocket, not to mention the barriers that prevent individuals from willingly participating in e-waste recycling. To increase the amount of e-waste that is recycled, these barriers need to be recognized and addressed, or they will continue to be detrimental to e-waste recycling.

Microsoft to Extend Windows 10 Support

Previously, Microsoft announced that it would stop providing security updates for Windows 10 in 2025, leading to a petition by the Public Interest Research Group (PIRG)  that the tech giant should extend support for the operating system. Following the petition, Microsoft recently announced it will extend security updates for Windows 10, but for a price.

Reuse Old Electronics This Holiday Season

Christmas is right around the corner, and many consumers are taking the opportunity to upgrade their electronics. Whether it’s a Christmas present, birthday gift, or office supplies, reusing retired IT assets rather than throwing them away helps preserve natural resources, protects the environment, and provides additional sales channels to those looking for cost-effective alternatives to new devices.
