J.R.R. Tolkien wrote that not all those who wander are lost, and HOBI’s next employee spotlight shines on a future engineer with a traveler’s heart and a deep appreciation for all things automotive.
Born in Mexico, Cesar Hernandez has lived in the U.S. for most of his life, primarily beneath the Texas sun. Like any true mechanic, Cesar is drawn to machines, big or small, and has been on the HOBI team for nine years in various roles, including parts purchasing consultant. He now manages HOBI’s cellphone processing, where he oversees and contributes to the repair and redeployment of used IT assets.
In the ITAD space, the primary focus is e-waste reduction, and HOBI’s cellphone processing involves repurposing as many devices as possible to contribute to the circular economy. This includes several steps that Cesar manages daily. Through data destruction, device repair, redeployment, and even materials recovery, he is present every step of the way to ensure all data is wiped and every repaired device functions correctly. Working in various roles equipped him with years of experience and intimate knowledge of ITAD’s inner workings, making him an essential member of the HOBI team.
Cesar currently lives in Dallas with his wife and three children, but at his heart, he’s an explorer. When the travel bug bites, it leaves a lasting impression, and Cesar loves to fill his spare time traveling and exploring new places. His goal is to visit as many state and national parks as possible, but he harbors a particular soft spot for California.
As hectic as work days can be, Cesar often enjoys staying just as busy at home and fills his free time with many extracurricular activities. In addition to being a father and a manager, he is also an electrical engineering student, and occasionally a math tutor. Though much of his time is spent with his family, at work, or catching up on homework, he also enjoys working with his hands when time permits. Whether it’s a home project, an old car, or even elbows deep in the garden, he loves building and puts his creativity to work in everything around him. Between school and work, he is also learning Urdu for his wife, who is originally from Pakistan.
When not at HOBI, Cesar can be spotted at automotive events with friends, disappearing beneath a car hood, at home working on a new house project, or planning his next adventure.
