From the California Mojave to the southern plains of Texas, Mauricio Cruz is very familiar with long highways and high temperatures. Life on the West Coast prepared him for the Texas heat and equipped him with a unique list of interests on his journey to HOBI.
Mauricio’s parents came to the U.S. from El Salvador, settling in the Los Angeles area, where Mauricio spent half of his childhood before moving to Dallas in 1990. There, his career began in shipping and receiving, advancing to warehouse management at a facility specializing in stainless steel fasteners. He also held several other roles that contributed to his experience in logistics and team leadership before joining the HOBI team as the Shipping Supervisor, where he will celebrate his 13th anniversary in August.
As the oldest of four children, Mauricio developed leadership skills early, which contributed to the organization and patience required for his role at HOBI, which often includes more than shipment tracking. As the Shipping Supervisor, he is responsible for managing all inbound loads, outbound sales, and scrap orders, ensuring that the logistics process moves efficiently and accurately. This involves team management and collaboration, enforcing safety and quality standards, maintaining accurate inventory records, and ensuring timely delivery and proper documentation.
Tracking shipments and managing a logistics schedule can be a tedious process, which is why Mauricio values quiet time to recharge at home. Sharing space with his girlfriend and two Blue Heeler mixes often feels like a full house, but he finds comfort in the familiar chaos. After a mentally taxing day, he enjoys simple pleasures like catching up on a good show, but also possesses a unique collection of hobbies that help his mind unwind.
In the past,, he has practiced martial arts and had a fondness for reptiles, even owning Geckos and Anoles at one point. He also dabbles in photography, favoring natural landscapes as his subjects. His latest endeavor has been growing fruit plants, a feat he claims has produced mixed results.
When not at HOBI, Mauricio can be found soaking up the serenity of a peaceful night at home, persuading his greenery to produce adequate fruit, and perhaps behind a camera lens, capturing the natural beauty of the Lone Star State.
