With Thanksgiving quickly approaching, HOBI would like to wish you and your loved ones a very happy and blessed holiday. We also would like to remind and encourage everyone to keep it eco-friendly and to safeguard the environment this holiday season. Although holidays are about festivities, activities, entertainment, etc., it’s vital to remember what the season is all about, to give thanks. Here are some tips on how you can keep your holiday celebration sustainable and environmentally safe.
Traveling is a common activity during the holiday season, and in order to reduce carbon emissions, we suggest you carpool if it’s possible. When washing dishes, rather than hand washing, use the dishwasher. Before running the dishwasher, make sure it’s fully loaded and is on the shortest cycle. When decorating your home, choose natural decorations such as leaves, pumpkins, acorns, and pines.
Glass and ceramic dishes maintain heat differently than metal ones. In order to reserve and reduce the use of energy, swap out metal dishes for glass and ceramic. By doing so, you are reducing the temperature needed for preparation by a certain amount of degrees. Additionally, use ambient LED lights and turn off the TV anytime it’s not being used. Lastly and most importantly, remember to recycle and provide trash containers for both recycling and composting. Aluminum, cardboard, plastics, and glasses are all recyclable, so be sure to recycle these items in particular.
