ESG Reporting is sweeping the business world as a strategy companies use to improve and promote accountability, transparency, and environmental awareness. The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has developed a toolkit to help guide those interested in implementing ESG reporting.
The role of traditional ITAD is changing, and ESG reporting is one of the new industry criteria becoming more necessary to adapt to the evolving landscape. ISRI will be holding a workshop once a month from now until December to discuss topics such as sustainability in ESG reporting, where to start, and why it’s important.
More businesses are striving to reduce their carbon footprint. Many companies have set more sustainable goals and worked to reduce energy consumption. In ESG reporting, environmental criteria examine the strategies for potential environmental risks and how a company plans to manage or mitigate such risks.
ESG social criteria refer to a company’s relationship with its employees, clients, and community, how it manages employee health and safety, and its stance on public issues. ESG governance criteria focus on the amount of transparency and accuracy a company presents in accounting and reporting methods, as well as audits, leadership, executive pay, and shareholder rights.
ESG can be accomplished in many ways in the ITAD space. Electronics donations programs help bridge the digital divide by providing electronics to those who may not have access. IT asset disposition focuses on sustainable solutions via e-waste recycling that contributes to reducing e-waste. The first ISRI workshop took place June 8, covering governance and materiality, and the next is scheduled for July 20 and will address strategy, goals, and community.
