Utilizing Augmented Reality Technology in the Business World

AI has been a topic of interest worldwide, but another topic is emerging that might be the future of business. Recently, Apple announced its highly anticipated augmented reality headset, which has generated excitement among Apple consumers, and many in the business world believe augmented reality may become the primary way business is conducted in the future.

In May, Sightful announced the development of a new topless laptop, Spacetop, which uses a pair of augmented reality glasses to project a 100-inch screen only visible to the user. While other laptops are typically limited to 13 to 17 inches, Sightful’s Spacetop provides a large 100-inch screen, enabling users to view multiple apps simultaneously with the familiar use of a laptop keyboard.

Apple’s VisionPro does something very similar, with less equipment to carry around. Sightful’s Spacetop uses a slim pair of glasses, while Apple’s Vision Pro is a headset that functions as AR and V, and enables users to do the same using only their fingers and EyeSight to interact with the screen. Both pieces of technology enable users to see their surroundings while providing a larger screen.

Using AR for business presents many benefits, one of the most important being data privacy. A large portion of the business world now works remotely, and many choose to work from coffee shops, parks, or other public spaces due to personal preference or to gain internet access. Still, no matter where you are, public spaces all present the same concept: privacy. Imagine how easy it would be to access enterprise data simply by looking over someone’s shoulder. AR hardware like Sightful’s Spacetop or Apple’s VisionPro enables users to work freely anywhere without the fear that their screen is visible to others.

Larger screens provide more efficiency in collaborations and presentations, which helps increase productivity in the workplace, and the transparent layout allows users to continue with daily life and interact with others without pausing to remove a headset or glasses or shuffle a heavy laptop around a table to make extra room.

Of course, as technology evolves, the concerns of electronic waste increase, and some may wonder what will happen to these AR devices over time, especially when newer models are introduced.

IT asset disposition facilities like HOBI partner with companies to provide responsible e-waste disposal via recycling. HOBI is an R2v3, RIOS, WBE, and ISO-14001 certified ITAD enterprise with locations in Dallas, Phoenix, and Batavia. With more than 30 years of experience in the industry, HOBI is committed to helping clients find sustainable solutions for their retired IT assets and even offers repair and remarketing opportunities for hardware that has yet to reach the end of its use.
