For businesses, millions of PCs are aging, and enterprises that have fought Windows 8 will likely trade in the old and upgrade to computers with Windows 10.
What is so intriguing about Windows 10? This upgraded operating system solves usability issues that set back Windows 8 users from mobility potential.
“One platform for all devices.”
Windows 8 has experienced issues with separate tablet and desktop interfaces; a primary reason some businesses have resisted Windows 8 OS. Windows 10 will allow users run the same programs on desktop and mobile devices.
All major PC makers are expected to support Windows 10 when it is released next week. Hardware makers are already customizing drivers and products for Windows 10.
The approximate 600 million PCs that are four years or older are ready for system upgrades and hardware makers are banking on the enterprise trade-in. While spectators agree it is too early to predict the impact of Windows 10 on PC shipments, it will not be as big as the kind of overhaul Windows 7 provided to PC shipments in 2009.

Where does this leave older laptop inventory?
Gartner Research conducted a study of nearly 200 large businesses and discovered that the average life span of a desktop PC is 43 months and only 36 months for laptop PCs. More than 20 percent of respondents said new software requirements led to the need for PC replacement.
More often than not, equipment is considered obsolete even before living 50 percent of its lifetime. These devices then find their way to warehouse storage or, worse, e-waste piles, leaving a company vulnerable to data breaches, minimal ROI and fines from irresponsible disposal.
