VTech Holdings, a digital toy maker, suffered a data breach that exposed the information of 6.4 million children and 4.9 million adults. This attack was completed by an unauthorized source that gained access to the company’s “Learning Lodge” app data base on November 14, 2015.
The compromised data included names, email addresses, passwords, some mailing addresses, download history, and most concerningly, pictures of both adult and child users. The company issued a statement to assure users that no payment information was leaked.
VTech’s information breach confirms that no industry is safe from cyber attacks. The recent information breaches in healthcare, higher education and government institutions should serve as a reminder to all industries that the highest quality information security measures are a necessity.
