International Data Corporation (IDC) reports overall tablet shipments continued to decline for the second consecutive year during 2016.
IDC indicates 52.9 million tablets shipped during Q4 of 2016, a 20.1 percent decrease from Q4 2015. Aside from Q4, 174.8 million tablets shipped during 2016, a 15.6 decrease from shipments during 2015.
Decreasing tablet shipments could be a reflection of growing device lifecycles, and consumers’ decreasing desire to update devices annually. As users choose to update devices less frequently, tablet shipments will continue to fall.
