IDC reports tablet shipments continued to decline in the second quarter, with 38.7 million devices shipped globally. This represents a 12.3 percent year-over-year shipment decrease.

Although tablet shipments decreased as a whole, Amazon, Lenovo and Huawei each saw growth. IDC predicts there will be further growth once the newest version of Android is successfully launched.

The overall decrease in tablet shipments can be seen as a response to consumers’ desire to hold onto mobile devices longer. Tablet users are looking to upgrade their devices less frequently, and as the perceived lifecycle on tablets increases, shipments will continue to decrease.
