A report issued by the Cloud Security Alliance indicates 17 percent of interviewed enterprises have reported a data breach. The study, called “Identity Solutions: Security Beyond the Perimeter,” interviewed 325 enterprises about their current security protocols.
In addition to the 17 percent of interviewed companies that reported a data breach, 22 percent indicated they were unsure if they had ever suffered a data breach and 57 percent declined ever reporting a data breach.
Of the percentage that reported a data breach, 22 percent indicated the breach happened because of compromised credentials. The rising number of credential-related breaches is seen as a response to the overall lack of scalable identity management solutions for enterprises of all sizes.
As more companies shift to cloud computing, top-notch identity management will be needed to control the larger amount of people accessing enterprise data.
