The Recycling Industry Operating Standard (RIOS) board of directors announced the release of the RIOS:2016 Implementation Guide (RIG), which has been designed as a “do-it-yourself” system. The guide contains a series of tools, documents, and templates to help recyclers efficiently implement RIOS and become leaders in environmental stewardship, quality assurance, and overall health and safety.
Following the release of the modified RIOS:2016 Standard last November, the RIOS Technical Advisory Group spearheaded the development of RIG as a much more robust and universally approachable version. The RIG is designed for easy readability in order to allow employees who are not compliance experts but play a role in managing environmental issues, employee health and safety, and quality control, the ability to easily follow the document. The guide also contains a new Footprint Tool, which is more effective and easy to develop. Also, a high-functioning QEHS management system is accessible to recycling facilities of all size, regardless of commodity or process.
RIG is a tool that helps a facility operate in more efficient, safe, and environmentally conscientious way without the hassle of contacting outside consultants. In order to assist facilities with the transition to RIOS:2016, RIOS will be hosting a series of webinars throughout the year. These webinars will help train and highlight new ways of approaching common QEHS issues.
