Research and Markets reports the global mega data center market will reach or surpass $14 billion by 2019. This major growth in business can be attributed to the growing popularity of colocation and cloud computing for major enterprises.
A mega data center is any data center that occupies more than 200,000 sq. ft, so this could be any major enterprise data center, and many third-party management centers. Along with the increase in overall revenue for mega data centers, this report anticipates 87 percent of enterprises will rely on cloud computing by 2019.
This revenue growth may not be surprising to many IT professionals because of the increased adoption rate of cloud computing last year. Overall, it will be interesting to see if medium-sized enterprises switch to colocation within a mega data center, or maintain a privately-owned center.
