ESG reporting is sweeping through the business world as a growing industry standard for businesses all over the world, but what many do not know is that practicing R2v3 compliance can help achieve each of these ESG criteria.
R2v3 is a revised edition of the R2 certification that was updated in July 2020 by Sustainable Electronics Recycling (SERI) for the first time since 2013. Among the updates are new requirements regarding detailed and accurate shipping information and a transaction summary report, which helps employees keep better track of clients’ equipment. The new update also requires R2 facilities to define appropriate steps to identify and direct equipment and components both capable and incapable of reuse to the next process.
Device reuse is a significant facet of bridging the digital divide, which is the focus of ESG social criteria. ESG social criteria refers to a company’s relationship with its employees, clients, and community. The ITAD industry social criteria focus on providing opportunities for clients, such as value maximization and repair and remarketing opportunities via proper IT asset management and disposition.
During the pandemic, work and education became almost entirely digital, and technology still remains a signif aspect of both. Increased technology prices have created a worldwide gap between those with access to electronics and those without. Repair services and remarketing opportunities help ITAD facilities provide IT equipment to those who cannot access it and help bridge this digital divide.
Practicing R2v3 compliance by maintaining appropriate steps to identify reusable devices helps ITAD facilities process devices quickly and more efficiently, which produces faster turnaround rates for clients.
