Fortune reports IBM is looking to increase cloud offerings by acquiring UStream, a live video streaming service. UStream is anticipated to receive $130 million.
UStream was one of the first live streaming services on the market, but has not received as much attention as Periscope. Since its creation, UStream has worked with major companies such as Facebook to provide live streaming services, instead of focusing on direct consumer delivery.
This new acquisition can be seen as an effort for IBM to increase their cloud portfolio, a major trend amongst tech giants. Last year, Dell completed the largest tech acquisition in history by purchasing EMC and in turn increased overall cloud storage opportunities. As cloud computing rises to popularity in 2016, more major tech giants may choose to further increase their cloud services portfolios.
