Provided is a weekly snapshot of the recent 5G technology, reverse logistics and asset management related news that HOBI’s blog reported during the week 12/17-12/21.
5G will likely be a niche technology for years
Despite the constant excited chatter surrounding 5G mobile technology, researchers believe that 5G will remain a relatively niche technology until 2025. Professional services firm, Deloitte, predicts 5G technology to make up only 14 percent of the total number of mobile, non-Internet of Things connections worldwide by 2025. Until then, the current 4G/LTE networks will remain the predominant mobile communications technology for the foreseeable future. However, despite the gloomy forecast for 5G’s initial adoption rate, Deloitte emphasized that it is the “connectivity technology of the future.”
Living in the age of reverse logistics
Reverse logistics is one of the fastest developing areas of the logistics industry. And with technology advancing each day, RL is facing continuous changes in its scope and significance. As a result of globalization and the booming e-commerce industry, businesses have faced a complete transformation in the way customers buy a products as well as the way organizations sell a product. But while it is a necessity in today’s digital age, organizations are finding reverse logistics to be a challenging task for them to perform.
How to put a stop to ‘shadow IT’
You may not have heard of the term ‘shadow IT,’ but if your business is using a ‘bring your own device’ (BYOD) policy, there is a high possibility that you have these lurking around your IT assets. Essentially, ‘shadow IT’ is the usage of unmanaged applications in a business environment. While they aren’t malicious by nature, they can do some real damage to your company’s security efforts. This is because not all apps are created equally, therefore the unmanaged app could be using poor coding techniques which can lead to vulnerabilities that may affect the device, other apps or information sent over the network.
