HOBI International Partners With EPA, GSA to Celebrate America Recycles Day
Certified electronics recycling center hosts tour for Regional Administrators
DALLAS, Nov. 15, 2011 — HOBI International, Inc., a global leader in the resale, remarketing and recycling of IT assets and cellular phones, today marked America Recycles Day with a visit from EPA Regional Administrator Dr. Al Armendariz and General Services Administration (GSA) Regional Administrator J.D. Salinas III.
HOBI International, Inc., was selected to host the event as a leader in e-waste recovery and recycling and part of the R2 certification program, a third party certification promoting environmentally responsible practices in the electronics recycling industry.
“Responsible recycling is a positive transformational process in which business enterprises have a large role to play in their communities,” said Craig Boswell, President of HOBI International, Inc. “They are expected not only to reduce the environmental impact of their own business activities, but also to help reduce that of consumers and society as a whole.”
The event was intended to promote President Obama’s administration’s “National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship” – a strategy for the responsible electronic design, purchasing, management and recycling that promotes sound electronics recycling (e-cycling). It also was an opportunity to demonstrate EPA and GSA’s partnership with industry to promote environmentally sound management of used electronics, which goes hand in hand with creating green jobs.
“Through the National Strategy for Electronics Stewardship, the federal government is not only able to take steps towards protecting our environment, but also produce new jobs and get Americans back to work,” said Salinas.
America Recycles Day began in 1997 and is celebrated each year on Nov. 15. The day is meant to educate and motivate Americans on the importance of recycling.
“Hobi International is helping to ensure yesterday’s high-tech electronics do not become tomorrow’s contaminated garbage,” said Dr. Armendariz. “By reminding Americans that recycling should not stop at the curb, EPA and HOBI International are helping transform our throw-away culture into a recycling culture.”
