Last Sunday, hackers breached a directory of more than 9,000 Department of Homeland Security employees’ names, titles, email addresses, physical locations and telephone numbers. The hacker, or hackers, responsible for the breach indicated on their Twitter handle that they plan to release around 20,000 FBI employees’ information as well.
The hacker claims to have initially gained access to these files by compromising a Department of Justice employee’s email address. From there, the hacker leveraged his way into the DOJ intranet. The hacker details more of the breach in an interview with Motherboard.
The rising number of attacks on all industries shows the growing need for top-notch data security on all levels.
