Users of Google Apps Unlimited now have the option to increase their security. The new Data Loss Prevention tool supposedly decreases any chance of employees leaking sensitive information to unauthorized sources. This tool scans both the body and attachments of both outgoing and incoming emails for potentially malicious or vulnerable content.
Business owners are able to subscribe to the service, then choose a number of predefined rules to filter outgoing and incoming emails. These predefined rules could go as basic as rejecting or quarantining any email with social security numbers or other financial information, or become more customized, like rejecting any outgoing email to an unauthorized source containing a specific project name.
This tool already comes with predefined rules, including sensitivity towards French, Canadian and U.S. social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, credit card information and bank routing numbers.
