A new report from EdTechXGlobal indicates the educational technology market will reach $252 billion by 2020. Up to two percent of the $5 trillion global education market is currently digitized, and experts anticipate that percentage will continue to grow with new technology advancements.
Google and Microsoft are leading educational technology sales, with Google comprising 58 percent of sales and Microsoft comprising 22 percent of sales. Apple ranks third, with only 14 percent of educational technology sales.
Apple’s declining sales in the educational technology market is a response to school district budgets. Apple’s higher prices are a less attractive option for school districts who can purchase multiple Google devices for the price of one Apple product.
As more school districts choose to implement tablets and laptops in the classroom, the educational technology market will continue to grow. School districts will continue to pursue the most affordable devices from manufacturers and refurbishers to stay within budget.
