A survey conducted by the Uptime Institute indicates enterprise IT budgets are shifting away from focusing on corporate data centers and towards more outsourced services.
The Uptime Institute interviewed around 1,000 data center and IT professionals. From these interviews, Uptime found 71 percent of reported assets were contained in enterprise data centers, 20 percent were contained in colocation data centers, and 9 percent of reported assets are currently deployed in the cloud.
Along with new findings in containing assets, 50 percent of the interviewed enterprises reported shrinking IT budgets, 10 percent indicated substantial budget increase, and the remaining 40 percent reported modest or insubstantial budget increases.
The overall amount of enterprise IT budgets decreasing, and increasing amounts of enterprises employing outsourced services such as cloud computing, indicates a rising need for data center maintenance providers.
