The new version of Android will run on personal computers. Chromebooks will adopt a new name, but the popular Internet browsing app will remain named Chrome.
Google’s decision to combine systems could be seen as a response to Android’s rise to popularity. Android is quickly becoming the world’s most widely adopted operating system, with more than 1 billion devices using the system daily.
According to the Wall Street Journal, an early version of the combined OS can be expected early next year and the final operating system will premiere in 2017.
