Apple is erasing certain apps from the app store after a report issued by SourceDNA revealed 256 apps violated security guidelines. The 256 apps totaled 1 million downloads around the world.
The report, published Sunday, revealed apps using software to gather users’ personal information, including email and device identification numbers. SourceDNA has not named the specific apps, but the majority were created in China.
One million downloads may not seem like a huge number by app store standards, but users should still be wary. SourceDNA voiced concerns that other app developers are using similar approaches for “malicious behavior.”
