A 2019 article by The Guardian points out that although the United States accounts for only 4 percent of the world’s population, it generates 12 percent of the world’s total waste. Nearly 75 percent of the total waste can be recycled. To keep the planet safe and toxin-free, we need to recycle and do it correctly. To accomplish this and make recycling as simple as possible, here are some recycling apps that will help us identify what and where to recycle to keep the environment clean and greener.
iRecycle: This app demonstrates more than 1,600,000 ways to recycle about 350 different materials and assists with locating local, convenient recycling facilities. To use the app, choose a material needing to be recycled, search for a local recycling facility, and contact the facility. The app will also provide directions to the institution to make the drop.
Recycle Coach: We have been taught to recycle everything, but not everything is recyclable. Recycling Coach helps improve terrible recycling habits by determining whether a certain material is recyclable and where to take it. The app gives suggestions for categorizing your waste and gives you the ability to share useful information with others. The app also allows you the option to sign up to receive reminders sent to your device regarding trash recycling days and special collections.
Recyclebank: Unlike the two above, Recyclebank is unique. This particular app rewards you each time you accurately recycle, which means the more you recycle, the more rewards you receive. The points you earn can be used at local businesses to receive discounts on certain products. To receive rewards, simply notify the app that you have accomplished your task and would like to be rewarded. Soon after, a Recyclebank partnering location will verify whether or not the task is completed.
Grow Recycling: Grow recycling is a game for kids. This app is used in many schools in the United States and Europe. This fun and exciting game will teach kids the proper way to recycle while expanding their minds in determining where an everyday item will go to be recycled.
Whether you are an expert recycler or just getting into recycling, there is always something to be learned, and these apps give you the tools to broaden your knowledge and to keep the planet clean. Each of these apps can be found in the app store and are available for both IOS and Android devices.
