Jean Philippe Bouchard, IDC tablet research director, reported 20 percent, or 40 million, of the reported global shipments were to U.S. customers.
This year’s low shipment numbers should not come as a surprise to anyone who has followed the market, seeing as the past three quarters have shown progressively decreasing shipment numbers. The lower numbers can be attributed to tablets’ inherently slower turnover rate.
Although 2015 was a slower year for tablet sales, changes can be expected in the future. Further developments into lighter devices and software changes may encourage consumers to upgrade devices quicker and more frequently.
