Gartner reports overall global PC shipments dropped 8.3 percent for the fifth consecutive quarter. Dell, HP and Lenovo each saw an overall decline in shipments for Q4 2015. On the other hand, Apple saw growth of nearly 3 percent.
The overall PC market ended 2015 with less than 300 million shipments for the first time since 2008. The overall decline of shipments could be seen as a response to the rising popularity and longer lifecycles of tablets and smartphones.
A total of 288.7 million PCs were shipped in 2015, an 8 percent decline from 2014, and more than 75 million of shipments took place in Q4. Apple finished 2015 with 6 percent growth.
While overall shipments have decreased, professionals remain hopeful for more PC popularity. The growing adoption of Windows 10 could encourage users to upgrade devices in 2016.
